Harvests in the Land of Cognac

Summer is coming to an end. Nature is already beginning to rest. The explosion of autumnal colors illuminates the landscapes. Soon winter will transform sky and land again.
The grapes are perfectly ripe. It must be harvested. Thus begins the silent work that will continue in the heart of winter, the slow transformation of the grape into the liquor of the gods, cognac.

Certainly, the cognac vineyard is known for the use of harvesting machines, machines moreover developed here to avoid the risks of late unintentional harvests.

However, a few wineries still carry out manual harvesting on sloping or recently planted plots, but also for the pleasure of the moment.

A day of harvest

The last opportunity to take advantage of the warmth of the sun’s rays, the harvest is also the moment when the winegrowers show their talent and the passion which drives them, to give the vines the best of themselves.

With these passionate winegrowers we start the day with the traditional breakfast. Once ready and without too much delay, head to the vines to redo the ancestral gestures of manual harvesting. The few rows reserved must be harvested to go all together for lunch and taste the dishes of the grape pickers of yesteryear.

In the afternoon, we return to modern harvesting methods. A short tour of the grape harvester then we follow the course of the grape until the vat.

The birth of Pineau des Charentes

The day would not be complete without the birth of Pineau des Charentes. Who knows how this product, which is well known to summer vacationers, is produced.

Well, without revealing everything here, you need freshly obtained grape juice and young eaux-de-vie from the estate’s cellars.

Once the Pineau has been prepared, but not finalized, it remains for us to conclude this fascinating day with a snack with tasting of the farm’s products.
